Remember my statement in reference to little Betty observing everything that goes on around her and receiving the same messages as boys?  Even though women may at times express a need for sensitivity in a man, men can be pushed away because they are sensitive.  In reference to the structure of the male image, women observe all the things which take place from childhood to adulthood.  On many personal occasions I have found that showing a sensitivity for women in concern of their feelings, often causes an immediate wall of defense.  On other occasions when I have shown tears as a result of emotions, it was not understood nor accepted ... For one woman I was once told to not ever show tears again; it was not manly!  I am trying to point out, many women have difficulty dealing with male emotions which do not fit the male image as they perceive it, especially when those emotions are expressed by a male of romantic involvement.

I have also observed that women have less difficulty dealing with male emotions if those emotions are expressed by a male friend with which there is no romantic involvement.  The ways in which we become hurt emotionally throughout our life and the lack of trust which builds within can
